2,322 converted to Islam in Dubai last year 2012

As many as 2,322 people embraced Islam in Dubai last year, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) announced.

The new Muslims belong to 77 nationalities. Out of 2,322 people, 1,630 were women.

The department does its best to fulfill its mission of spreading the Islamic culture and maintaining the national identity by taking care of mosques, the Holy Qur’an, and the Islamic heritage; issuing researches and fatwa, and through developing charitable work in a moderate approach and through proper channels, officials said.

The department always shows great consideration towards new Muslims through specially designed programs that include various activities, such as religious and cultural courses and lectures, and through the printed and electronic resources we give them to learn about Islam, director-general of IACAD, Dr Hamad Bin Al Shaikh Ahmad Al Shaibani said in a statement.

Huda Al Ka’abi, chairwoman of the New Muslims Section said that the new Muslims came to the department’s building out of their own will and with sincere intention to embrace Islam, after they had learnt about its principles and teachings and after they had discovered its great message.
