Belait RBPF officer, family of nine embrace Islam

AN IBAN family of nine embraced Islam yesterday in a ceremony that took place at the Multipurpose Hall in Kampung Pandan, Belait.

The event was organised by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). Present as guest of honour was the Commissioner of Police Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Dato Paduka Hj Hasrin Dato Paduka Hj Sabtu.

The head of the family, Benitis Muran Anak Bangsang, now known as Muhd Azbenz Nohrizan Abd Rashid Bangsang, said that he and his family had intended to convert for many years but wanted to wait for "when it felt right".

"We have always wanted to convert and the planning for the ceremony took about four months of preparation," the 35-year-old said.

Mud Azbenz, a police officer working at the Belait District, added that it was an ecstatic day for him and his family because he felt that it was the right decision for him to embrace Islam especially with the support of his peers and the RBPF.

"The ceremony was actually cheerful because I have never experienced feeling as fulfilled," he said, stating that this was a new chapter for him and his family.

The children; Russell Bugik Anak Benitis Muran now known as Muhd Imran Ashraf Muhd Azbenz Nohrizan, Mas Cordelia Anak Benitis Muran now Nur Afifah Nadhirah Muhd Azbenz Nohrizan, Sweety Samantha Anak Benitis Muran now Nur Faariha Aathirah Muhd Azbenz Nohrizan, and Abrielle Valerie Dumang Anak Benitis Muran now Nur Hanania Mardhiah Muhd Azbenz Nohrizan.

His wife, Priscilla Anak Mikai is now known as Nur Shahiela Najihah Muhd Mikail; Muhd Azbenz's in-laws Mikai Anak Sliman now Muhd Mikail Abdullah Sliman, Munah Anak Kulih now Maimunah Abdullah Kulih, and Wenny Anak Rimong now Adni Nurjannah Abdullah Rimong.

The family members took an oath declaring their faith in the oneness of Allah SWT and the seal of the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH) and recited the Syahadah in the presence of religious officers from the Islamic Da'wah Centre (PDI) of Ministry of Religious Affairs.

After the ceremony, a Dikir Marhaban was performed to welcome and bless the new convert who was then sprinkled with bunga rampai.

The event also included handing over of a gift memento to the newly converted family members.
